Frequently Asked Questions
How many calories do I need per day?
Your daily calorie need depends on your age, gender, height, weight, and activity level. The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor formula to find your BMR, then multiplies by an activity factor to get your TDEE.
What is TDEE?
TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) is the total number of calories your body burns in a day, including basal metabolic rate plus energy used during activity. Eating at TDEE maintains your weight.
How many calories should I eat to lose weight?
A deficit of 500 kcal/day leads to approximately 0.5 kg (1 lb) of weight loss per week. A deficit of 1,000 kcal/day leads to about 1 kg per week. Avoid going below 1,200 kcal/day (women) or 1,500 kcal/day (men) without medical supervision.
What is BMR?
BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) is the number of calories your body needs at complete rest to maintain basic functions like breathing and circulation. The Mifflin-St Jeor equation is considered the most accurate estimate.
